The Municipal Transfer Station is a municipally operated waste and recyclables transfer site located on Highway 125 between Red Lake and Balmertown. Various types of refuse are accepted, but some items may require an additional fee in addition to the standard disposal fee.

The Transfer Station accepts cash, debit and major credit cards. Other payment options are available to large volume customers. Please contact the Treasury Department at 807-735-2096 x221 for information.

Bag Tags and Waste Disposal Tickets

Garbage Bag Tags and Waste Disposal Tickets can be used to pay for disposal fees of waste at the Transfer Station and are available from the Transfer Station, the Municipal Office, TJ's Kwik Stop, Mitchel's Midtown, Clark's Gas Bar, and Red Lake Community Centre.

Contaminated Material:

Types of material that are classified as contaminated include but not limited to Asbestos and contaminated soils. Contaminated material will only be accepted at the Transfer Station if it is from within the boundaries of the Municipality of Red Lake and a certificate of approval from a laboratory clearing the material for disposal has been produced. Asbestos shall not be loose.

Contaminated Material $0.75/kg plus any costs associated with disposal

General Waste Disposal Fees

The Transfer Station is equipped with a vehicle scale that is used to determine the weight of refuse being deposited. The current cost per Kg is listed below:

Residential and Multi-Residential $ 0.25 per kg (Minimum 10 kg - $2.50)
Commercial and Light Industrial $ 0.25 per kg
Government and Institutional $ 0.30 per kg
Large Industrial $ 0.30 per kg

Household Hazardous Waste Program Fees

Household hazardous waste can be dropped off on Saturdays for transport to approved handling facilities. The current fees are listed below:

Oily Water $ 0.50 per litre
Used Fuel $ 1.00 per litre
Aerosol Cans $ 1.00 each
Fluorescent Lights $ 0.75 each
Propane Tanks $ 5.00 each
Motor Oil $ 0.50 per litre
Other Flammable Liquids $ 0.75 per litre
Paint Containers $ 1.00 each
Empty plastic oil containers $ 0.25 each
Oil Filters $ 1.00 each

Special Circumstances

In the event that the weigh scales are inoperable, the following fees are to be charged:

$ 2.50 bag, bundle or carton of waste;
$ 5.00 large individual items; (e.g. couch, chair, mattress, etc.)
$ 25.00 $ 25.00 for each load of construction material
$ 50.00 $ 50.00 for each load of sorted material; (3 ton vehicle or larger)
$ 40.00 $ 40.00 for equipment containing refrigerant
